With over 33 years of dedicated service to Kentucky public education—all within Madison County Schools—Dr. David Gilliam brings a wealth of leadership, institutional knowledge, and strategic vision to every role he undertakes. His career has spanned nearly every facet of the educational system, including positions as a teacher, coach, athletic director, principal, and numerous roles in central office administration.

For the past six years, Dr. Gilliam has served as Superintendent of Madison County Schools, where he successfully led the district through the construction and financing of ten major capital projects totaling more than $160 million. Under his leadership, the district experienced both infrastructural and academic growth, earning him recognition as the KEDC Superintendent of the Year in 2023.

Dr. Gilliam holds a Ph.D. in Education, a Master’s in Business Education, and a Bachelor’s in Education—all from Eastern Kentucky University. His lifelong commitment to education and community advancement continues to leave a lasting impact on generations of students and educators in Kentucky.
